Public Paddler Registration

Cost to Register: $100 per boat (Canoe or Kayak)

With the goal of building on the core principles of protecting, regenerating, and enhancing the watershed, Paddle the Don will include a $100 registration fee per boat. This $100 fee will be used to build opportunities for people to experience, engage in, and help enhance the Don River Watershed.

Registration includes:

•   Two lunches for paddlers (Provided at the Manulife Landing Party)
•   Two Manulife Paddle the Don Gifts for the paddlers
•   An $80 tax receipt written in the name of the person registering

 

Manulife Corporate Challenge Registration

The Manulife Corporate Canoe Challenge offers a fun and truly unique team building opportunity for companies to participate in. Simply form a team of your co-workers, business associates, suppliers or clients and join the Corporate Challenge along with some of Canada’s largest corporations. Take the lead and show others that your company is helping to make a difference in the health of the Don River! 

Corporate Canoe Challenge teams will begin launching at 10 a.m. from Ernest Thompson Seton Park. All paddlers must arrive by 9:15 a.m. to sign-in and have their team photo taken. Show your team spirit by wearing your company colours or flying your corporate flag!

Entry Fee: $1,200

A minimum donation of $1,200 allows your company to enter one team consisting of TWO canoes into the challenge.  Companies may enter additional teams if there is lots of interest in participating.

Your corporate team will receive:

•   TWO canoes* plus paddling and safety gear.
•   Lunch for all corporate paddlers.
•   Keepsake hat for all corporate paddlers.
•   Team photo.
•   A dedicated online team fundraising page to collect donations.
•   Links to corporate poster (pdf) and fundraising ideas.
* Three adults maximum are permitted in each canoe.

Your company will receive:

•   Recognition on the Manulife Paddle the Don website.
•   Recognition on the day of the event on signage at the launch site and Manulife Take-out Party.
•   Recognition in media kits.
•   A tax receipt for the donation portion of the sponsorship.

Winning the Challenge & Awards

Teams are encouraged to fundraise beyond their minimum corporate donation. Winning is simple:  the team** that raises the most above the sponsorship fee of $4,000 (segment) or $1,200 (team) is declared the winner!
** Teams from the same corporation will be competing against each other.

First place team receives:

•   The Grand Prize – A TreeTop Trekking team building adventure for 10 people! More information on this prize will be availabe shortly!
•   Manulife Corporate Paddle as a permanent keepsake.
•   Recognition at the Manulife Landing Party.
•   Recognition on our website following the event.
•   Invitation to attend and be recognized at a TRCA board meeting

Second and third place teams will receive:

•   Black Creek Historic Brewery prize pack.
•   Recognition at the Manulife Landing Party.
•   Invitation to attend and be recognized at the TRCA board meeting in June.

 

Manulife Paddle the Don Sponsorship Opportunities

Segment sponsorships are available for the event:

Segment Sponsorship: $4,000

Three segments are available:

•   From Launch to Portage One
•   From Portage One to Portage Three
•   From Portage Three to the Take-out Party

How Can I Fundraise for Manulife Paddle the Don?

Fundraising can be done through our secure online fundraising system, or you can print and use a pledge form. Below you will find information and steps on how to use both systems.

Fundraising Using the Secure Online System:

•   Once you’ve registered your canoe or kayak, you will receive an e-mail (within one business day) with your personalized username and password. You will then be able to login to your personal fundraising profile by following the link below.

•   If you are on the waiting list, are participating in the walk, or if you would like to raise funds and are not participating in Manulife Paddle the Don, you can still sign-up to raise funds by clicking here and setting up a fundraising profile.

•   Encourage your friends and family to visit your fundraising page and support your efforts. You may upload or add your contacts to the system and send out an email informing your friends and family about Manulife Paddle the Don and how they can support you.

Fundraising Using the Pledge Form:

If you use the printed version, please bring completed form(s) along with all of the money you’ve collected to the event.

Easy Fundraising Tips!

•   Start with YOU – go ahead, pledge yourself!
•   Ask friends, family and neighbours to support you. Use the message we’ve provided and personalize it to suit your needs.
•   Ask your company to match your pledges.
•   Ask early; don’t wait for the last minute to begin your campaign. Be prepared for some ‘no’s’ and don’t get discouraged. Remember to thank everyone who supports you right away!
•   Make it as easy as possible for someone to give you money. Use the secure online fundraising system.

Corporate Fundraising and Awards

Steps for Online Fundraising:

  1. Once you’ve registered your corporate team, login to your team fundraising page with the information you receive in your fundraising registration e-mail. This e-mail will be sent to you within one business day of your registration, and it will contain your username and password to login to your fundraising profile.
  2. Encourage your team members, friends, family and coworkers to visit your team page and support your fundraising efforts. You may upload or add your contacts to the system and send out an email informing your friends and family about Manulife Paddle the Don and how they can support you. We’ve also provided some simple fundraising tips to help your team get started.

Team Fundraising Tips:

•   Make the first donation. Donors are more motivated if they know you contributed to the cause.
•   Conduct an email or letter writing campaign. Engage other corporations, clients, suppliers, employees, family and friends to support your team. Use the message we’ve provided and personalize it to suit your needs.
•   Ask your company to match employee contributions.
•   Organize a dress down day at work for a donation in support of the Don River.
•   Collect extra change near the register in the cafeteria or at the reception desk.
•   Ask early; don’t wait for the last minute to begin your campaign. Be prepared for some “No’s” and don’t get discouraged. Remember to thank everyone who supports you right away!
•   Make it as easy as possible for a company or individual to support you. Use the secure online fundraising system.

 

Other Ways to Get Involved

There are other ways to participate even if you aren’t paddling.

Take a walk or bike the trails that parallel the canoe route.

Stop at any one of the viewing points listed to watch the paddlers on their journey.

•   Leaside Bridge (Millwood Road South)
•   Pottery Road (Between Bayview Ave and Broadview Ave.)
•   Bloor Viaduct (Bloor St just west of Danforth Ave.)
•   Queen Street (Between Bayview Ave and Broadview Ave.)
•   Riverdale Park (West of Broadview Ave. between Danforth Ave. & Gerrard St. E.)

Join the paddlers at the Manulife Landing Party which is held in the parkette on the northwest corner of Villiers Street and Don Roadway. Festivities, including music and a BBQ will begin around 10:00 a.m. and will continue until the last paddler arrives at about 3:30 p.m.
